Freedom for Idil Eser and the 9 activists imprisoned in Turkey!
Idil Eser and the other militants were unlawfully arrested without proper justification. They were later accused of committing a crime and of belonging to a terrorist organization. They are also accused of holding connections with the leaders of the failed coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in July of last year.
Such charges are unfounded; the militants are victims of an abuse of power by Turkish authorities that highlights the precarious situation of human rights militants in this country.
Six militants are still being detained and awaiting trial: İdil Eser (Amnesty International), Günal Kurşun (Human Rights Agenda Association), Özlem Dalkıran (Citizens’ Assembly), Veli Acu (Human Rights Agenda Association) Ali Gharavi (IT strategy consultant) and Peter Steudtner (trainer for non-violence and well-being).
Meanwhile, four activists have been released on bail: İlknur Üstün (Women's Coalition), Şeyhmus Özbekli (Rights Initiative), Nejat Taştan (Equal Rights Watch Association) and Nalan Erkem, (Citizens Assembly).
We have to fight so that these innocent militants may be freed and cleared of all charges as soon as possible. Sign this petition and share their story so that the world may learn about their situation.
